Fully Accessible Barbados (FAB) is a programme of evaluation and recognition. It seeks to assess properties for their level of accessibility to a variety of persons with disabilities; not only the physical structure but the general treatment of patrons with challenges.

The FAB Standards and Criteria are based on international accessibility requirements.

 

Standards and Criteria are awarded in the following areas:

Wheel Chair Assisted

Property or facility owners of this award must provide easy access to persons who depend on the use of a wheelchair in a seated position. This person would also require personal or mechanical assistance (eg: carer, hoist).

Mobility Challenged

Property or facility owners of this award must provide easy access to persons who have restricted walking ability and also for those who may need to use a wheelchair some of the time and can negotiate a maximum of three steps.

Deaf

Deaf or Hearing Impaired be an independent traveller.

Visually Impaired

Property or facility owners of this award must provide easy access to persons who are visually impaired.

Independent Wheelchair User

Property or facility owners of this award must provide easy access to persons who depend on the use of a wheelchair, who can transfer unaided to and from the wheelchair in a seated position. This person would most likely be an independent traveller.
