Barbados Historical Museum

The Barbados Museum and Historical Society is housed in historic buildings which were originally used as the military prison at St. Ann’s Garrison.

During the 18th century the Caribbean was the scene of numerous military conflicts, primarily between England and France who fought for supremacy. The building of garrisons, forts and naval dockyards throughout the region was a direct result.

This historical spot has been recently renovated to allow person in wheel chairs to access some of its most traversed areas, allowing them to soak up some of our rich history.

There are a few areas which are not accessible to neither foot nor wheel chair traffic but this is strictly from the view point of keeping historical and antique artifacts safe, these areas have windows where visitors may glimpse the way things were.

The Museum can also be rented as a venue for your special event.
